The Parenthood was founded in 2013 with the mission to make Australia the best place in the world to be a parent.
Our research shows that three changes are critical to making Australia the best place in the world to be a parent and raise a child. These are:
1. Adequate and equitable paid parental leave. A world-leading policy would offer 52 weeks of paid leave shared between parents.
2. Universal access to affordable early childhood education & care delivered by a well-paid and qualified workforce.
3. Family-friendly workplaces that offer flexibility and a culture that values parenting among men and women.
This is an ambitious wishlist but these changes are within our grasp. Over the past two and half years our impact has helped accelerate progress on all three.
There are now major commitments in place to improve access to early childhood education and expand paid parental leave and there is work happening to make workplaces more accommodating. But, more is needed, and it takes collective effort. When we all come together to call for change, we become too loud to ignore!
