VIC CHILDCARE SAFETY: SHOCKING AND DISTRESSING CHARGES UNDERSCORE NEED FOR NATIONAL COMMISSION

Reports of alleged abuse at childcare and early learning centres across Victoria are deeply distressing for parents and further underscore the need for the establishment of a National Early Childhood Commission.

Maddy Butler, Campaign Director of The Parenthood, said no child should ever be harmed – especially not in a space where they are meant to be safe, cared for and nurtured.

“Every family should be able to trust that when they leave their child in an early learning environment, their child will be protected, supported and treated with dignity,” Ms Butler said.

“This is a highly distressing situation not only for the parents and families impacted by the alleged abuse, but for every parent across the country who is worried about their children’s safety.

“This is why we continue to call for the urgent establishment of an independent National Early Childhood Commission – to ensure national oversight, consistent quality, and accountability across early childhood education and care services.

“Every child deserves safe, high-quality care. Every educator deserves the support and safeguards that allow them to do their work well. And every parent deserves to know the system is working in their child’s best interests.

“Our hearts are with the families impacted by this situation. This should never have happened.”
