Dear Parenthood community,

How good are the photos above? Our communications guru Michael created the banner for our new monthly newsletter and it was a bit of a "pinch me" moment when he sent it through.

Why? Let me explain.

All of the families photographed are members of The Parenthood community. They're from various states and territories and these photos make my heart sing. They're diverse, they're real, they want change and together they visually depict a snippet of families around the country.

When I started as Executive Director back in July 2020 one of the small challenges Michael and I had was tracking down great photos. If you look up stock images for parents and children what you are most likely to find are photos that feel a long way from the reality of family life in Australia. They're - most often - very staged, very glossy and very white. Literally. They rarely look or feel particularly relatable.

When Maddy joined in May 2021 she got to work facilitating a host of photo-taking sessions with a stack of families. We now have a library of gorgeous images that capture more of the diversity and reality of our members' lives.

It might seem small but given we exist to campaign for better policies for families on behalf of our members, having realistic images of our members is HUGE.

Thank you for all the support!

Georgie
