A Monumental Win for Early Childhood Educators

This is a message we have dreamed of sending. Early childhood educators are going to receive a well deserved pay rise that reflects the value and importance of their skills. And your voices helped make it so! 🥳🥳🥳

This is a message we have dreamed of sending. Early childhood educators are going to receive a well deserved pay rise that reflects the value and importance of their skills. And your voices helped make it so! 🥳🥳🥳

Last week, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced that his government will fund a 15% pay increase for more than 200,000 early childhood educators and teachers.

This victory is a game-changer — for educators, children, families and communities. It is a win for everyone. Whether you have children or not, this decision benefits us all. The education and development of our youngest citizens will be better supported, leading to stronger communities, increased productivity, and reduced inequity. A wage increase for early educators underpins all of this and more.

Early childhood educators have been campaigning for this win for a long time. We've stood proudly alongside them. Parents know the immense value of early childhood education for their children and families. We all know that without early educators, there is no early education.

That's why in my four years as CEO of The Parenthood, nearly every conversation I’ve had — whether with parents, politicians, educators, journalists, advocates, or economists — has touched on the need for a meaningful pay rise for early childhood educators.

I am immensely proud that we haven’t missed an opportunity to champion the importance of properly valuing and paying this vital workforce. Together with unions, the sector, educators, fellow advocates, feminists, economists, and so many others, I am proud of the small role you have helped us to play in securing this monumental win.

This announcement is a profound recognition of the essential contribution that early educators and teachers make to our communities.

We cannot wait to see what comes next!

Many thanks,

Georgie Dent
CEO, The Parenthood
