Hello!

It's Georgie here. I am back in action after a fantastic sabbatical and I am excited to reconnect with you all.

Stepping back into The Parenthood has been a real joy. Watching the team work so effectively to advocate for parents, children and families in my absence had me fist-pumping from Canada.

With immense gratitude to Jessica Rudd, Maddy Butler, Michael Katerla, as well as our supportive partners and board led by Wendy McCarthy, my sabbatical truly felt like a break.

Since I’ve been back at the desk it’s been busy! Want to catch up on all the details? Dive into the newsletter below for an exclusive peek at what we've been up to.

We are determined to make 2024 a year of BIG positive change for parents, children and families everywhere in Australia. Thanks in advance for helping us make that happen!

Many thanks

Georgie

THE TIME FOR ACTION IS NOW!
The Parenthood welcomes the release of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) Childcare Inquiry's final report, advocating for the implementation of bold reforms. “The ACCC's findings affirm that early childhood education and care is a cornerstone of our society, impacting the development and education of children, as well as the lives and working patterns of parents and families, and the economy,” said our CEO, Georgie Dent. “The time for action is now. The challenges and opportunities outlined in the ACCC Childcare Inquiry's interim report demand bold and comprehensive reforms that prioritise the wellbeing of our children and families.”

REGIONAL, RURAL AND REMOTE FAMILIES DESERVE BETTER
Too many children in regional, rural and remote areas miss out on the benefits of early learning because there are no services available. Access to early childhood education is absolutely crucial in these areas - to not only secure strong educational, social, health and wellbeing outcomes for children, but to prepare them for school.
If you’re sending a little one off to school for the first time this year in a regional, rural or remote area we’d love to hear from you. Please share your thoughts in an email to Maddy ([email protected]
) or fill out our online form here.

THREE RECOMMENDATIONS TO MAKE AUSTRALIA A BETTER PLACE FOR FAMILIES
The Parenthood has provided a Pre-Budget Submission to the Australian Treasury for the 2024-2025 Federal Budget. Our submission focuses on the reforms necessary to deliver on the Commonwealth Government’s ambition to make Australia a world leader in regard to the early years and gender equity.

For too long Australia has lagged developed countries in the provision of best practice, evidence-based policies that optimally support children, parents and families. Find out more about our three main recommendations here.

DAD’S ACTION PLAN FOR THE EARLY YEARS
The Parenthood joined a coalition of organisations endorsing a groundbreaking Dad’s Action Plan for the Early Years in Sydney, demanding policy changes to foster equitable parenting patterns, empower dads and support early childhood development. The Dad’s Action Plan addresses the fundamental role of fathers in parenting and the persistent challenges they face, including stereotyping and inadequate support.
